PI
Pi was designed in 2022. Its core outline, two vertical supports and a horizontal top, echoes the π symbol, hence its name.
Pi is a modular shelving system that can be expanded both vertically and horizontally through interchangeable elements. A solid wood edge defines each component, serving both structural and visual purposes. Structurally, it creates rigid surfaces without the need for inset stabilizing elements. The projecting lip also functions as a subtle restraint, keeping objects securely in place. With its open back, books can rest against the edge and lean naturally against the vertical posts. Visually, Pi celebrates the materiality of solid wood, framing every surface with a continuous outline.
The assembly progresses from the top down. The top panel is fitted with concealed hardware on its underside into which the vertical posts are secured. Each subsequent shelf is mounted through the surface into the legs below. With every added component, the previous connection is concealed within the structure. Once assembled, Pi presents itself as a seamless form, free of visible hardware.
In situ, Pi functions as a standalone bookshelf, a long sideboard, or it can be configured as a full floor to ceiling library wall.
